skills, interests and values. Learn the process for determining short
and long range employment and career goals.
CREATIVE JOB
SEARCH (CJS) WORKSHOP - 2 DAYS
Wednesday/Friday 9:00-4:00 (offered every 2 weeks)
This is an
interactive, skills-based workshop designed for those who have
identified a job title of interest, and a minimum of 20 skills related
to that job. This workshop involves hands-on
learning
through small & large group discussion, individual exercises,
presentation and videotaping. To gain the most benefit, you are
encouraged to
attend both
days. Prerequisite: Complete
required Skills Worksheet, located at the Greeter's Desk.
Tailoring
Resumes & Cover Letters (CJS - Day 1)
Wednesday 9:00-4:00
• Learn concepts to
decide on the best format and content for your resume and begin to
draft.
• Write basic, effective cover letters to introduce your resume.
• Learn how to complete a job application effectively so it gets you
noticed.
• Find how to access the "hidden job market" using an effective
networking strategy.
• Identify effective job references. Develop strategies of cold calling
using the telephone.
Interviewing
(CJS - Day 2)
Friday 9:00-4:00
• Develop a powerful skills language, using the "Prove-It" Process.
• Discover what to do
before, during, and after an interview to
maximize the
effect of the interview.
• Learn how to effectively handle difficult questions and salary issues
in the
interview.
• Participate in a short videotaped interview and learn the importance
of
continuous practice.
NETWORKING
GROUP
Meets on Mondays 9:30-11:00 a.m.

offers. It can also provide encouragement and the opportunity to
support and be

COMPUTER
CLASSES
The purpose of these
computer classes is to assist the job
seeker in using the job search computers in the Resource Center.
Mousing Around!:

Learn mouse technique.
Using MinnesotaWorks.net:
Thursday 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. (offered every 2 weeks)
Learn how to use
MinnesotaWorks.net to search for job openings, create and post your
resume, and other features. Search other job bank websites. Bring your
resume/job history with you. Familiarity using
the mouse is required to attend this class!
MS Word & Emailing
Basics:
Thursday 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. (offered every 2 weeks)
Learn the
basics of MS Word so you can copy and paste a resume. Set up an email
account so you can email your resume and learn the basics of filling
out on-line job applications. Familiarity using
the mouse is required to attend this class!
Microsoft Series
w/Gorse:
Mondays 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Day 1 - Windows/Internet Day 2 - Word
Day 3 - Excel Day 4 - PowerPoint
This course is
tailored to the students' needs and understanding of computers. Familiarity using the mouse is required.
**Due to the overwhelming
interest of these classes, participants will be allowed to take each
class only once to
give others an opportunity to attend. These classes are
intended to be taken as a series, not individually.
