Dislocated
worker services at the Minnesota WorkForce Center - Rochester are
coordinated through both Minnesota Job Service and Workforce Development,
Inc. These services assist those who are unemployed or facing a layoff due
to a business or plant closing, workforce cuts or technological changes
rendering their skills unmarketable. All services are offered FREE
of charge.

Job Service |
Training Needs Assessment
Assessment of skills is done
through a series of aptitude and interest inventories. The World-of-Work and
several other assessment tools may be utilized by professional career
counselors as a guide in determining an individual's current marketable
skills when selecting a career or continuing education.
Basic Skills Updating
Assistance is available to individuals
who need to improve in reading, writing, math and basic computer skills.
Classroom Training Assistance
Classroom training is available to
individuals who need to enhance their technical skills required in the
workplace. Workforce Development, Inc. coordinates the training between the
participant and education provider and offers financial assistance.
Classroom tutoring and counseling are available.
Support Services
Workforce Development, Inc. staff
assist participants in overcoming personal or environmental barriers that
may restrict their employment opportunities. This help may be in the form of
transportation, child care or work required uniforms.
On-The-Job Training
On-The-Job Training (OJT) is
an effective way for participants to acquire new work skills while receiving
a wage. WDI shares the cost of OJT by reimbursing the business up to half of
the starting wage during the training period. |
Skills Assessment
The Minnesota Job Service will assess
your work history and abilities in order to determine marketable job skills.
All skills are reviewed, including application completion, resume writing
and interviewing techniques.Job
Search Assistance
The Minnesota Job
Service conducts Creative Job Search Workshops that give the customers the
tools they need to make a successful transition back to work. During the
workshop, Job Service will cover: writing a resume, identifying individual
skills, interviewing for a job, finding jobs in demand and coping with
unemployment. A resource room provides published job seeking information and
computers to assist with job seeking activities.
Job Identification and Placement
With its extensive knowledge of local
businesses, Job Service will make every effort to assist you in finding
employment that meets your needs, skills and potential. Recent placement
tools include MinnesotaWorks, an internet-based resume and job posting
system. |
